More than 100 refugees are expected over the two weeks. Following language courses in the morning, which are being supported within the framework of the “NRWege ins Studium” state programme of the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, the participants will be provided with various information and have the opportunity to experience dialogue, workshops, sporting activities and parties. The aim is to give everyone who is interested in studying a taste of campus life at our University. The Open Campus Summer School, which is taking place at HHU for the second time, will run from 7 – 10 July 2025. It will be followed by a second, brand new, week-long event – Her Tech Future Week – from 14 – 18 July.
“Her Tech Future HHU is an empowerment programme for international female academics and students from non-EU countries,” explains Janine Janus from the International Office, who is organising the events together with her team. “There is a MINT focus (mathematics, information technology, natural sciences, technology and medicine), but everyone who is interested is welcome.”
A selection of topics from the extensive programme:
- The language buddy programme
- Online self-study modules at HHU
- Getting started on the German labour market
- Intercultural awareness: caught between two worlds – stronger together
- Strategies for academic and professional networking
A selection of the topics covered during the democracy focus days:
- Democracy in crisis and what to do about it
- Online communities – dynamics of political expression on social media and ways to establish a better discussion culture on the Internet
- It’s a Woman’s World – showing digital extremism a red card
