The THE Rankings take account of various indicators from the five areas of teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook and industry, enabling the renowned, London-based Times Higher Education magazine to offer an international benchmark based on the best institutions in the world. Universities from 108 countries and regions took part in the current rankings for 2024. The universities must get actively involved to be included in the ranking list.
HHU has improved its results in all five categories and appears in the group “251 – 300” in the overall rankings. Professor Dr Stefan Marschall, Vice President for International Relations and Science Communication, highlights one development in particular: “Heinrich Heine University has done extremely well in the ‘industry’ category in an international comparison, ranking 236th and thus among the top 12%.” This category includes industry and business income and now – as a new addition – the number of patents citing research undertaken at HHU.
The University also ranks well above average in the area of “research quality”, which among other things takes account of the HHU contribution to research excellence and the extent to which its findings and ideas have been included in high-quality publications. Achieving 280th place here, HHU counts among the top sixth of the participating universities.
