Onboarding for newly appointed faculty members
Getting settled at HHU

Anyone who takes on a professorship needs to familiarise themselves with many areas quickly. A University-wide programme has now been launched to complement the support offered by the individual faculties. In each winter semester, a series of events covering five topic modules will present the core services relating to research, teaching, human resources, administration, public relations and knowledge transfer. The programme starts on 4 November and is aimed at all new professors.

A new HHU onboarding programme is being launched at the beginning of November.

With the programme “Onboarding@HHU for newly appointed faculty members”, our University is aiming to make it easier for new appointees to familiarise themselves with diverse activities and provide support in the event of questions to ensure successful collaboration in all areas. “A professorship also involves being a leader in research and teaching,” says Dr Uta Brunner, Personal Assistant – Training and People Development.  “Our modules impart organisational knowledge and information on key contacts at HHU. We also answer questions and provide individual support.”

Alongside research funding and research management, the network for newly appointed faculty members facilitates dialogue between colleagues and enables the completion of further training measures.

More about the onboarding:
•    Module 1 – Programme kick-off, Teaching and Study Organisation
•    Module 2 – Exchange with the Central University Administration
•    Module 3 – Central services and programmes
•    Module 4 – Leadership in Science
•    Module 5 – Supervising Doctoral and Postdoctoral Researchers

A breakfast with the Rectorate, the Deans and the Chair of the Senate is planned at the end of the programme in May 2026.
